The Ecological movement “Okvir života” and the Maize Reserach Institute “Zemun Polje” invite you to the workshop “Agrobiodiversity and the right to seeds”. The workshop will be held on October 22th, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The workshop will be held in the premises of Young Researchers, address: Young Researchers 8, Valjevo. We are extremely grateful to the Association of Researchers “Vladimir Mandić- Manda” from Valjevo for their hospitality and the opportunity to hold the workshop at their place.

Entrance to the workshop is free. Applications are mandatory and will be open until October 20!

To register, you need to send an email to okvirzivota@gmail.com, which contains your name, surname, which part of Serbia you come from and how many people you are registering

At the workshop you will have the opportunity to:

  • find out the basics of preserving old varieties and saving rights to seed (Dr. Slađana Savić and Dr. Ivana Radović – Frame of Life),
  • hear more about the initiative to establish a network for plant genetic resources (Dr. Ivana Radović – Frame of Life)
  • learn more about the importance of local initiatives for sustainable development and food security (Dr. Vojka Babić – Maize Reserach Institute “Zemun Polje”)
  • familiarize yourself with a good example of the practice of returning old varieties to the market (example of Slovenia) (Dr. Vesna Perić – Maize Reserach Institute “Zemun Polje” )
  • hear more about the preservation of old varieties of fruit and ask all practical questions related to this topic (Dr. Aleksandar Radović – Frame of life)
  • participate in the discussion on how we can jointly promote and protect old varieties in Serbia

The workshop is intended as an initial step in a wider cooperation — after it we expect to continue working together for several years on this important topic.

This workshop is realized within the following projects
“Strengthening the capacity of local communities to preserve biodiversity and traditional knowledge” – Ecological movement “Frame of life”, with the support of the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia

“Women Netting for Domestic Seed Treasure Revival (NEST)” ( https://www.dsss.org.rs/nest/index.php ) – Maize Research Institute “Zemun Polje”, with the support of the Center for the Promotion of Science.

See you in Valjevo!
