Guardians of Nature

The Nature Keepers program is dedicated to environmental protection, the study and preservation of biodiversity and the promotion of sustainable use of natural resources. The program combines the expertise of researchers from relevant scientific fields with citizen science, while involving local communities in research processes.

This program resulted in significant discoveries, the most significant of which is the discovery of 6 new species for science and 12 new species for Serbia in 2023. As part of the program, efforts are also being made to strengthen the role of local communities in decision-making processes.A special part of the program is focused on environmental protection through good agricultural practices. Currently, the association “Okvir života” as part of this program is implementing a project to assess ecosystem services using citizen science in the Ribnica river gorge, and the project is led by the Faculty of Biology of the University of Belgrade.
